Insurance- what a deal

Post by bundytunna »

just got a quote from TCIS for insurance for my 4b
i told them that i had a 2" body lift 3" springs and 35" muddies and about 5k of mods
they sed yep no worries well insure ya
i got a market value of $10,900 (which is way higher than just car and aus 4wd and dga)
but the best bit is my premium
$350 per year
he told me that he would insure my car with the mods i have done to it
BTW a 3" spring lift on my car is illegal coz it exceeds the legal lift limit and 35" tyres also exceed the legal tyre increase limit 2" BL is fine tho
he sed there would be no probs with insurance if i had a prang
should i take the market value or should i hassle them for an agreed value
what is the pros and cons of market and agreed value

get it in writing too....

Last I heard TCIS were sorting out the modified 4wd insurance issues they are having, by the sound of it they have fixed it.

My modified gq has always had insurance around the $1200 mark, then I turned 25 in December and now it's $516 and rating one. Im impressed, pity it took seven years and a couple of stacks to get it there.

If I were you I'd get the the fact that he is prepared to insure and pay out on an unroadworthy car in writing...because if you read the fine print, I guaranfu*kingtee that it says all mods must be roadworhy.
Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).

The purpose of specific Off-road insurance is to provide insurance for modified vehicles in off-road circumstances.

Agree - unroadworthy / illegal mods on-road, no deal, no pay out, you deal with it..... but 4wd insurance is just that..... or at least it should be.

2" body lift is legal in bic
3" is prolly illegal on ur car hm
u r allowed to lift the vehcile 1/3 of the orig bumpstop clearance so most likely urs is illegal
i am getting the policy sent to me once i read that i wanna try and get sumin in writing that says they will insure my car with those mods

Bollocks...

As soon as you need them to pay up, if the car is Unroadworthy, then you are on your own.

TCIS yes, but with which insurer? TCIS are only brokers.

Also are you covered for offroading everywhere?

I got about $430 a year today with Aust 4wd Insurance. $10000 market value, 2" body, 2" spring lift. 55% no claim, and about $2k in accessories...

Better than the $115/month TCIS wanted to charge me

Must be cause I'm living out in the boonies...nothing round here but cane toads and 83lux's ;)

TCIS were about $1400 a year last year and dropped to about $900 for me this year. Very strange all this crap...but ....my paper work is through so so long TCIS.

Oh..don't have to be a club member or anything with Dgain either..

i got a quote with them today (tcis)

under dads name and me NOT a nominated driver the excess is approx 510 for my car with all the mods/accessories, but i forgot to mention the diff lock so it might change.

Under dads name with me as a nominated driver (10%) the premium goes up to 1200 approx with the same above.

Also if i have an accident and am not listed on the policy they might not pay up in some circumstances, so i think it is best to have me listed down and get slugged the extra 800.

If i am not listed and crash on the road, oh s**t, but if i do in the bush, "dad was behind the wheel" ;)

2 tips hottie, you can bet insurance companies read these forums, adn they would have copies of anything they can use in court, cause they love paying out..

we all know the dodgy things, just dont say them where they can see...

and other is be on the policy, if you aint they will wave night night... cause they love paying out..

I can understand that we all try to save money every way we can.... BUT dodging up insurance is Bullsh1t. Its another cost associated with the sport. No diffferent to new tyres each year. Insurance is not only for the panel damage but for your passengers who end up injured as a result.

Do you think that your injured passengers will back up the story that "Dad was behind the wheel!"????

I am suprised that the youngest driver was not listed on the policy.

I am 23, have agreed value of 30K plus 5K in mods. Premium is 700pa. However anyone else under my age is uninsured whilst driving the car....

My girlfriend has a proton gti, she is 23 we have agreed of 27K, but if you are not listed on the policy as a driver you are not insured either... But thats a sports and preformance car..

Unfortunately the only way we learn is the hard way. My first car was written off and I lost the battle with suncorp because I did not inform them of the mods....

I'm insured through AAMI, vehicle is covered for $67,000. Includes 70mm suspension lift, Cooper S/T's and around $6,000 in extras. Have it in writing on my policy. " Total cost per year " $445.00.

Yes i'm rating 1 and over 25, but l thought that was a good price.
