either the clutch needs adjusting (could be on the back of the master cylinder where it attaches to the pedal) or it is not engauging properly (master cylinder or slave cylinder maybe not working if it is a hydraulic setup)

I had a heavy duty one in my lux and shattered a spring in the centre of the clutch plate which caused it to do exactly the same as what yours is now doing....

Have a look at the hydraulic side of it first or if its a brand new clutch... do the adjustments at the master cylinder.
