Anyone replaced the standard sierra temp sensor? The tab has broken off the one in my zook, so i tried to remove the one from my spare engine, and it busted off as the bastards are hollow. How did you get em out without busting them, and where do you get em?

That was one thing i was also going to ask, so soldering to the sensor isnt going to affect it? Im going to be using that sensor to run some thermo fans also.

didnt with mine.

beware thou there are a few different sensors from suzuki that look at the same.

U may be able to get a davis craig one ? that fits in there to do the job.

The sender is a variable resistance setup and is designed to work with a gauge. If you want a sender to activate your thermo/s you'll need an idiot light style. On or off..
You can always solder a fitting into your radiator and screw a new sender in there.

lol yeh i understand that. Im gonna fit one of the kits from jaycar, seems like it will work nicely. I am worried though as you cant adjust the hysteresis, and i dont want the bloody fan turning on and off every 10seconds, i doubt that will happen though, i reckon it should be at least 5deg difference.

What is the Jaycar kit number? I can't find it in my catalogue.
Most of the kits are adjustable IF you know which component to replace.
Usually just a 10 cent resistor.

If you want it to activate a thermo fan then check out a swift/barina setup at the wreckers. same engine which runs a thermo fan. designed from the factory to work for a g13.

why are you running a thermo fan on a sierra anyway? so long as your cooling system is in good nick I cannot see the need.

When the radiators not coated in mud its perfectly efficient, but i am sick to f'ing death of the engine dying in water crossings and wet bogholes cos the engine fan hydraulics in the water and just dies. I was thinking of setting up an aircon clutch style arrangement to the fan, but ive already made mounts for a 16" thermo which fits almost perfectly.

Kit number KC5377

Its not water getting into anything either, cos as soon as zook is out of the water its fine.

coiler viscous fan is another option then. I reckon check out the swift setup it might just be ideal and work without constantly having to trouble shoot further on.

Yeh ill check out the swift setup tomorrow, ta. The kit will be just as easy though so either way im happy.

hey on my 91 wt the temperature gauge in the dash isn't working, so where does the problem lie? temp sender (this is the one just below the thermostat?), the gauge itself, wiring, dirty connections?
Thanks Mitch

That kit should work just fine with the original gauge sender. It has adjustable hysterises and can be configured for rising or falling voltage..
Nice find. :D

Hey mate, disconnect the wire on the temp sender, turn the ignition on and earth the wire to the head or engine block. Hold it there. if your gauge starts reading then that means your dash is ok. so then go buy a new sender from repco or bursons. there about 5-20$
