hey guys.
if i wanted to clear 35/36 inch tyres on a 60 sereis, without lifting it, or at max say 2 inch in suspension, and i do know that suspension doesnt help you clear tyres.
if i was going to cut the gaurds, it would be the inner gaurds that would be giving me all the trouble yeah?? like thats where the tyres would be rubbing??
ive been thkinking, about ripping out most of the interior, of the wagon, and basicaly only leaving the front seats.
as it would start as i bought it, and id want to fit the tyres so that i could just start playing( i have owend one previously and remenber the lay out of them quite well)
eventualy it would eb converted inta a ute, for rough play, as i was a little rough on the old girl last time,
so would i have to basicaly tub the front and rear inner gaurds to clear the tyres at basicaly no lift??
or is it just removing material around the out side of the gaurds, and smoothing off the inside??
chers guys
Al

cutting gaurds to clear tyres

35s just rub on mine wit 4'' of lift at the front of the inner guard (front wheels). they may just clear the outside of the guard unless youve got 10'' wide rims, then u may have to cut the outside as well. but u may have problems wit it touching a few spots on the inner guard without any lift which would be a hassle to change cause so many things are mounted to those inner guards. the rears will rub hard on your chassis and inside of inner guard. will polish it up nice though
is there any danger to the tyres? like will they tear?? if i used off set rims, would that counter act the chassi rubbing??
i dont mind cuttign the outer gaurds, i was actualy planing on having to, and i dont mind hacking up the inner gaurds, and bending up some new ones,
front i dont really want to hack up to much, but as i mentioned, it would only be so that i can use it for a few months, untill i have a place i can cut the whole truck in half basicaly.
as it wouldnt be a daily, and it would only be a bush rig really.
rob - is that 4 inch of lift total, including body lift, or just a 4 inch suspension lift??

yeah 4'' total- 2'' spring 2'' body. the front tire literally rubs on the very front flange of the inner guard, which is a gentle round so hasnt hurt the tires at all. just sounds bad. but yours is gonna rub real hard. if u cut the front edge of the inner guard away u just gotta check its not gonna rub the bodywork in front of that. probably shouldnt though. i really dont know if its gonna touch the top of the inner guards. with the rears offset rims would clear the chassis rails but u may then scrub the outer guard flange which would be worse, so prob wouldnt worry about it. bit of rubbings not the end of the world so id probably start wit just cutting the front of the front inner n see how u go
hey mouse, i know your truck of annother forum, and have met ya once down at daves shop. (im alistair if ya remenber lol)
so basicaly, theres no way around getting bigger tyres to fit without scrubing at no lift??
even if i compleatly re make the outer and inner gaurds?? or more so cut away at the outer gaurds so tyres dont scrub, and make new inner ones(rear) ???
i really dont want to body lift it. which is the reason id rather a ute, but 60s dont come in utes id have to make that, which would take me more time, would be a great experiance, but i dont want to get the truck and wheel it standard, ive done that, i was laready looking at fitting bigger tyres b4 i had to get rid of me old 60. and i do want to get the truck, take a couple week ends cheacking things(like condition of axels and cvs, so i know if i have to have some sitting there waiting to go in, or at least on order or not) and cutting what i have ta for larger tyres then going out.
if i do a compleat cho it would take me a little while longer, and id have to go to an engineer.
also, if i buy a 60 wagon, and do that it will eventualy be getting the chop, so i only want it as a wagon running 35/36s for mabe a year, then choping it.
just for a side question, how many of you guys have broke cvs and axels with 35s??? i know it is easyer to do so espcisly if you drive hard, my old one i busted one with 33s but was hugely stuck, and still inexperianced a little( i am still in not that experianced)
