Gearbox Output spline.

Post by Dozoor »

Heres a Question guys ,

The gearbox output shaft on rovers , the shaft that fits from the gearbox into the transfer , Is the spline on this shaft 10 spline ?
It wouldn't be the same size and spline as a ten spline axle would it ?

are they all the same , ?
Thanks.

mmmmm , Thought i would get a quick response here mmmm,

I havn,t got a RR box lR box or transfer , and just want to know is the input to the transfers the same on RR and LR case although the t?cases are different ,

I have seen only one pic it was of a reworked T18 box being setup for a LR transfer , It had a reworked rear output to match the LR transfer it looked to be of only course ten spline ?

Its all to do with a possible th180 to lt230 , I would need to have the rear output machined or a spud shaft biult , not keen on spuds , so If i get the measurements of the input diameter i will know if there is enough meat on the th180 output to have it reworked to siut Lt230.

Are the transfers of the same strength LR P/T RR f/t
Won,t need F/t as will be Nis diffs with Freewheel hubs but if case is stronger , Does anyone have T case in bits , wouldn't mind knowing the gear phisycal size , width of the actual gears , diameter ect To compare with my other transfers i already have , MQ detached , Any info Greatly appreciated :D
Thanks guys

I have my Defender LT 230 apart on the bench at the momet. Don't know if any of the measurements are the same as RR, but let me know if you want some more.

Output shaft - 10 spline - OD 30mm - ID (bottom of splines) 26.4mm
Axle - 10 spline - OD 28mm - ID (bottom of splines) 25.4mm

Here's a pic of old and new style shaft and input gear for LT230.

The have a centre diff, if you want to run part time, you will will have to convert this, else no rear drive with front free wheel hubs disengaged.
