2h starving for fuel
Gday all,
The old girl feels like shes starving for fuel top end under load. Felt it first doin about 60odd 4th gear put my foot down, she started splattering like she was starving for fuel, backd off and it felt ok again.
Changed fuel and air filters and fuel primer cause it looked a little sus.
Still seems to be doing it up high, also if i rev it up round 2500rpm theres a tiny splutter like she needs more fuel. Topped the fuel up in case the iv knocked the pick up
Thanks Denny

2h starving
Not sure about in the tank but cleaned the wire filter in the lift pump, blew the lines out, ran better for a bit, then got air in the line again.
Havent put a copper washer under the new primer, didnt have one, deisel place near me not open again yet. Cant imagine that to be the prob as it isnt leaking from there. Thanks

get some clear line, and fit it before the pump, and make sure your not sucking air.
It can hold pressure, or the vac will not allow it to leak, thus you think its ok, but in reality, its sucking air, and not doing your pump or injectors any good, and giving you very poor performance.
Just cause it dont leak fuel, dosent mean your not sucking air.
I was surprised at how little it needs to cause performance issues.
check for air, then go from there.

Trains, Shadow, Thanks
Sorted now, worked my way from the pump back to the tank, was only when i changed the rubber line coming out of the tank and blew compressd air back through that line into the tank that its come good.
So either the hose was sucking air or muck in the tank.

Hi,
In my 61, you can't get to the in tank filter without removing the tank. Can't understand why Toyota would put such a fine filter in the tank and for it to not be user servicable.
I've taken mine out and will do all my filtering out of the tank thank you.
The return line is actually very close to the supply pickup in the tank. It would not be unreasonable to simply swap the return and supply lines over under the bonnet to assist with getting going in the bush or problem solving.
Hope this helps.

most in-tank filters cause no problems for 20 years. Why would they bother making it serviceable?Tim HJ61 wrote:Hi,
