Hi guys, im after ideas for a 3'' dump on my turbo, i think its a t3. My problem is the wastegate is part of the dump flange so im open for sugestions? Its an aftermarket turbo on a td42 that was fitted early 1990s.
Cheers Den
89 st wagon, 4.2 turbo, top mount intercooler, 3'' zaust, factory locker, 2'' bodylift, 4''lift, superior drop box's, 35'' mtz, custom bullbar, premier winch
I'd keep the exit the size it is and taper it up to 3" as soon as you get the room.
It's not critical to have 3" all the way up to the turbo impellor, the output from the turbo wheel is probably only 45mm round, your wastegate hole maybe 25mm.
The muffler is still your biggest single pressure drop. It makes more difference than pipe size.
Ah ok, the dump is 2.25'' and turns into 3'' after the bend. Is it worth changing the bend to 3'' or not? Its getting pump mods done soon and just want to make sure everything is ready.
Thanks Den

I wouldn't bother.
But if you want to be sure, take that EGT probe out and plumb up a pressure gauge. Go for a drive and see what sort of backpressure your current exhaust is giving you.
Thanks kiwibacon, might try that. Its a 3'' mandrel bent exhaust with straight through muffler so should flow fairly good.

I've got a t28 - is a flange with 3" outlet available aftermarket to suit, so that i can weld my own dump on easily? Where would i find one?

I've got a T28 in the parts bin, it looks like past about 2.5" you'll struggle to get bolts in as well as enough flange to weld to.
I have a 2 1/4" dump on my T25 and that gave a decent edge on the flange to weld to. I'll be doing something bigger eventually, but will probably stop it up after the neck.

Thanks kiwi. I think i'll just find something like pictured below that i can use or adapt to my needs, save me having to worry about welding to the flange (and forming the pipe around the funny shaped outlet)
