i recently had a conrod go through the side of da block on my 2.4 turbo diesel hilux (not happy Jan!!) :x ive got a price for a low klms jap engine to bolt straight in for $2300. I have a neighbour selling a wrecked VN V6 for $50 with 140 000klms on da odo. how much work is it to drop the v6 in in terms of bell housings ,engine mounts, clutch, flywheel, hooking da computer up ,upgrading da brakes and engineering to make it all legal?

any input would be much appreciated >? thanks

I am about to put a VT V6 into my hilux with the standard 5 speed.

Adaptor $925
Engine mounts $180
Clutch (mix of V6 and V8) $330
slave cylinder $75
FLywheel $315
Taco interface $95

Then there is all the electrics which for my motor is harder because it is ecotech. My best mate is an auto lec and between us we think we can work out the electics without having to by the stuff off Marks as they want heeps for this stuff. All this stuff would be around $1000.00 on its own. Plus the $1920 for the stuff listed about.

With a VN V6 the electrical would be a bit easier and cheaper but not by much.

If you ran the auto the adaptor is $200 cheaper but then you`d have to change the output shaft on the auto (possibly have to pay a shop to do it) change the pedals and mount a shifter.

Wether you go auto or man it would still workout to about the same $$$$

I am allowing $3500 to do my conversation and that is on top of getting the motor.

If you take your lux to Marks and pay them to do the conversion including supplying the motor they ill charge you about $10500.00 :shock: drive in drive out

Since then the g/box has flogged the bearings & broken the teeth of the input shaft, if done again i would go for the auto option.

im thinking it might be a s@#t load easier and cheaper to just put a 2.4 turbo backinto it> even though the engines only costing me $50 you never know wats gonna go wrong wif it. sounds like an awful lot of hassle just to go out and break axles and gearboxes.

ill keep my options open tho...

$2500 is what I have worked out it should cost me. If this is all it does cost me then I am putting twin T cases in aswell, but I`m not going to do that untill the motor is in and finished just incase I need the extra $1000

If you make as much as you can like the radiator (Marks adp $650) & exhaust ect you can save some money.

I`mjust going to use the standard desiel one, but if gets to hot I have another one here I will put on the back.

Haven`t allowed exhaust, hoping to do it myself like the electrics. But allowing the $$$$ like I said just incase.

I didn't do the electrics myself just used the Marks wireing harness, worth the extra $$$ i recon but if you can do it yourself even beter.

I used a V8 radiator from a VB-VH commodore & modified it to fit + have a 16" Craig Davis thermofan. No heating problems at all, even up here in the north.

For the exhaust i modifyed a set of extractors and fitted a straight through muffler (with cat) with a 2 half inch side pipe.

Sounds good. :D
