100 series petrol fuel economy
G'day I have a mate who has a 6 cylinder petrol 99 model 100 series, and he has noticed at the moment he is getting about 500kms per dual tanks about 130 litres I think . I have forgotten what economy he used to get but I am sure it wasn't that bad. The figures are for around town driving. The car has only done about 70,000 is serviced regularly etc. He recently fitted a roof rack but I wouldn't think this would stuff his economy that bad around town, it is an ARB 3/4 rack. He also has extractors and exhaust fitted.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some comparitve figures or ideas on why?
Maybe his wife is driving it too hard!!

take the rack off, for sure... will drop your range by about 10-15%.
what about tyres, lift, barwork, load, average speeds?

Fuel Economy
I have the HZJ105 and get 1100-1200km to the two tanks. The guy at work who has the same vehicle FZJ105 4.5 petrol gets 650-700km. I think your economy is about right. You could spend alot of money trying to improve the economy and only be dissapointed. Another guy at work says his 4.5 patrol will do Hornsby in Sydney to Brisbane without a fuel stop. I don't believe him.

2001 100 series stock as a rock
That is about normal, I'm getting the same fuel compsumtion in my petrol 100 series with the roof rack, awning and roof top tent also the same without those items. No real difference for me.
I have looked into chipping it and aftermarket exhaust, i'm not too sure if it's worth the dollars for little gain.

I have a 7/2000 build FZJ105 auto with 100,000k on it. It has steel front and rear bars, winch, dual batteries, LR fuel tank, 80 litre fridge, twin spares but no roof rack. A fortnight ago, fully loaded and with a bike rack and bike behind the twin spares, we went from Cremorne to Aspley (northern Brisbane) on cruise control at the various speed limits with some running round at the Gold Coast and used 170 litres for the trip. This equates to about 17 litres per 100 km.
Haven't measured round town recently, but last time I measured it (about 12 months ago), I got between 20 and 22 litres per 100 km depending on how much freeway work was involved.

ive got the 1fzfe in my 80 and for a while I was struggling to get 350ks out of the main tank.
Did all the basic checks with no positive outcome so got the injectors serviced and they were 10% blocked. It accelereated much smoother with slightly more power and a marginal increase in economy but I found the culprit to be a crack in the big rubber pipe between the air flow meter and inlet manifold. It had a series of fine splits between the corrugations.
Goozed in a heap of sikaflex and its back to 475 > 510ks per main tank on the freeway loaded with gear, 6in lift, 35s, 4:56s extractors, zorst,unichip and a heavy right foot.
Mind you it all goes to crap again in low range but thats to be expected.
Im not complaining.

I'm glad I have a TD same as yours late 10/2000, I do the same trip with 100 lts , From surfers to Hornsby I only use the main tank . Around Sydney I get 12 -12.5 lts per 100 km.
I use 18lts per 100 towing a 3.2 ton boat .
