Can I run this without a upgrade

And a brief story, Last outing brake pads fell out and on the way home in some rough tracks, the brake light come on and charge light, I thought yep I l lost a pad and so all the fluid has gone to one piston. Stopped found the where the missing pad was and made my way home using as minimal brake as possible. Parked it up and waited four days for some new brake pads to come to swap over, I did the front and the back. Anyway its all fixed go to have a drive and the car wont start find the battery is at 4volts so I charge it up start the car and got for a drive lights stay on. Okay well I have new fluid and its at maximum so the light should be off....? Anyway get home check for charge at the battery nothing, check at the Alternator nothing, run checks on all the wires coming from the plug yep I have 12volts. So Alternator must be dead. So did one last test to see if it would run without the battery and the 4by died and have done the tests with both car running and with just ignition on. I have also checked all connections and they seem good. So in the stage of my brake pads falling out my alternator died as well and I didn't realise it. Im told that both lights will come on when one of these fails some times by a electrician. So anyway now I have to wait for Ashdown ingram to send it away and be tested as its under warranty and it could take a month or so...? I didn't want to get another one from them for the time being cos first I don't really have the money and I don't want to be tied down to a company that cant offer warranty support from their shop or locally again with another Alternator if it dies down the track again.
So while Im waiting Im looking at doing the EF/EL upgrade, when I get my warranty claim I will just get the money back instead.
Questions
Now is this basically a strait swap over apart from sorting the wiring out...?
My sierra does not run the V-groove it runs a multi groove like the serpentine belts i think. Running from the water pump and main crank

Is it possible that I might not even have to change the pulley..?
The old alternators part No. was 03-71426 a rebuilt re manufactured style one.
Any way any help would be awesome and if I have missed any links to the Ford EF/EL swap could some one post it in thanks.
