Anyone own a D22 Navara?

Post by BigMav »

Hey guys the maverick is getting a bit tired and my more extreme 4x4 trips are few and far between these days. My missus and I like the look of the navara and I like the idea of having a ute. After watching the 4wd monthly DVD on them as a second hand buy they seem a pretty good value for money vehicle with only a few minor problems that they talk about (lack of bash guards). I am after any real world experience on these vehicles. I am probably looking at an 04 or 05 with as low k's as I can get in the 3.0 turbo diesel. How do they handle on road? Anyone fitted a calmini 3" lift? What size tyres can you run with a 2-3" lift without scrubbing? Any other things I should look out for in particular with this model. Cheers guys I hope there is a couple of Navara owners on here and not just patrol owners. ;)

I have had one since late 2004, which I brought new. It tows well, is economical and its around town drive-ability is very good.
It tows our v8 ski boat and my sierra well. I have had not one issue to speak of and am at 62ks.
Good luck.

Thanks guys, have you pretty much left them standard? As in suspension and tyres? Good to know they tow well as I will be towing a boat with it too.

Hey there. I have had My STR just on a year now. It is pretty comfy and great to drive. Go easy of the front diff.. mine broke after a bit of wheel spin on my first outing, apart form that they are a good daily driver. Heading off to Fraser in it and can't wait!
Mine is standard as its under warranty. have a look at nissan-navara.net forum a few lifts etc on there. most of the blown motor stuff relates to the o/s motor so don't worry anout that
Enjoy!

D22 Navara

Post by Navara82 »

Hi BigMav,

I have a D22 Navara STR 05' 3.0L TD. I bought in it 05 Brand New. :)
Fitted with the usuals- Frt Bar, spot lights, tyres, Towbar, UHF canopy etc etc
It has not let me down at all so far, just shy of 70,000k's. It towes pretty well for a 3L and its not to bad off road considering the front end torsion bars.... The only drama I had was a W/A issue at 1500 kms and it was rectified under warranty. I have nothing but good words to say about the D22....
Can be a little floaty in the Frt end but winding the bars up a bit rectified it, A bit of a nip up of the steering box by a great mate stopped the nav wandering on undulating roads. Thanks Mick..... :D

I find it comfortable around town and on the long trek to Broken hill in one go.

My 2 cents worth...
