patrol chassis and hilux body

Post by tozook »

hi all i've been thinking about putting a hilux cab on a gq chassis as i still have my old blue extra cab hilux body and miss it so i want to rebuild it

first plans where to buy a hilux chassis fit a v6 auto and dual transfer case, 37's on hilux diffs and then fit gq diffs under it later (leaf spring front and coil rear)

but now thinking about just putting the cab on a swb patrol chassis, Extend the rear wheelbase with maybe a 4 link aswell, v6 auto and dual transfer case, maybe 33's for road use and 37's-39's for weekend use

and yes it will be driven every day so what do you guys think can it be done

this is what the old girl looked like before a wreck it

There is a hilux the same as yours on a patrol chassis that competes at landcruiser mountain park, I think its a Lwb. someone on here should know who owns it.

I dare say you would have to go for a custom transmission tunnel and modify the firewall for the bigger motors. Not to mention the obvious bodymounts.

can be done and engineered, the patrol chassis is alot different in height and width than the hilux though so the mounts will be high in some places.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

Allow for a lot of frustration, budget blow-outs, and grazed knuckles, and you'll have a nice unusual vehicle at the end.

Personally though, to be honest with you, I would find a patrol ute and paint it blue, it's not like hiluxes or patrols have such magnificent lines on them or anything, they are both built for function not beauty.
This is not legal advice.

I am not sure on the legal sides but i think it comes under a body swap.
i put a pajero swb (chopped into a ute) onto a gq chassis, it was so very simple. the mounts are so easy to chop and move (thanks nissan) so do not let that daunt you.

engine bay will be fine but if it would be trouble i guess it would be length ways.

i would say go for it.

cheers mark

it will be cheap to put the hilux body on the patrol as to the first plan (buy a hilux chassis fit a v6 auto and dual transfer case, 37's on hilux diffs and then fit gq diffs under it later)

just look around for a nissan 6 cyclinder petrol with a auto behind it, then half the build is done, just jamb the hilux cab on top of the nissan chassie and fix a bit of wiring and its done, sounds too easy, whats the go with the v6 though over the nissan 6

There is a hilux body on GQ chassis in Hobart. Running a Toyota 1UZ V8 with Supercharger.
A lot of custom work has gone into it though I believe.

yes have shit loads of pics but dont know how to put them up yet,the only ones on this siteare of the finished job put up by other people,, there in the Daihatsu section under PIGLETRACING A FEW PICS,,the reason we made the body mounts so thick & braced them is over 2 years as a comp rig we had to keep on straightening/bracing factory ones,,so with the body swap it was time to get serious..also straightened & braced the chassis too

what are the legalities of doing this type of body swap in QLD regarding tyre and engines.

Do the rules go off the hilux or patrol. If the patrol that would mean i could put a LS1 and 32 or 33" tyres on a hilux legally???

I guess wide flares would have to be made to cover the tyres?

runs off the chassis not the body. so it means you can have a 350 etc. in it and 33s or whatever patrols can actually run.
