Buying 2nd hand high mount winch

Post by Grublux »

Is there anything to look out for when buying a 2nd hand Warn High Mount Winch?

I've found one for $700 with cable, fairlead and solenoids and will be looking at it tomorrow. Not sure how old it is either but the bloke said it hasn't been used for 3years and wasn't used much before that.

Any info would be great
Cheers

hey mate

sounds cheap. good buy

not much to go wrong with them. get power to it and make sure it winds in and out, check gearbox for abnormal noises. check to see if the freewheel switch work and the clutch on the side.

general condition, cracks in the housing at all.

you can power straight to solenoids to get it to wind if its not fitted. but would highly recommend making sure it does.

you can get a warn winch completely rebuilt for roughly $450 i spoke to steve hobbs not long ago and he rebuilds them. we were talking about high mounts and he said when ever he sees one on ebay for under $700 he buys it rebuilds it and sells

so if i was you i would buy it rebuild it and she will be like new!!

I got both of mine second hand and apart from being filled with water and stuffing the gears you should be able to check everything else from a visual inspection and powering it up.
