Manual / Power Steering swap - Hilux

Post by a4x4kiwi »

Dear all,

I am planning an electric conversion of an Extra Cab Hilux 2 wheel drive.

The requirements are that it has 4 seats (for family) and manual steering.

I am lookin at an extra cab verion.
The dual cab occupies too much tray area which I need for batteries.

Take a look at my blog if you are interested.

For the conversion I need a vehicle with manual steering (pre '89) , but the post '89 vehicles have the 'kids' seats in the back have power steering.

Now to my question: Does anyone know if the power steering box from a '89+ is compatible (input spline, Steering Arm, Bolt Pattern) with a pre '89 manual unit.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Mal.

Yes you will need the steering shaft and rubber joint from column to box and steering box from a non powersteer 88-97 hilux 2WD. Petrol or deisel they are all the same. These are the only 3 items you will need. It all bolts straight on. I have done a heap of powersteer conversions on the 2WD hilux's so im sure of this.

If you were in Brisbane i could have done you a deal. As im sure i have some Manual Boxes lying around here still.
