Stupid 80 series questions

Post by skozza »

Hi to everyone.

I'm new to 4wding and have a couple of stupid questions about an 80 series which I just bought. Its a 96 GXL, petrol, auto and the user manual I have doesn't answer these questions. Yes, I know I look stupid.

1. What is the "Power" switch next to the auto selector. Am I right that this is an overdrive switch which would only be used in highway driving? Does it toggle the "O/D Off" light on the dash?

2. What is the "2" switch next the "Power" switch. Is this a start in 2nd gear arrangement?

Grateful to anyone who can help me.

The power button changes the shift pattern of the auto. It holds gears longer etc so less up and down shifting. Use it when towing or in hills etc. No effect on the O/D light.

The "2" button is for 2nd gear start. So it starts in 2nd not 1st. For slippery conditions.

OD stands for overdrive, you can switch it on or off,
used for highway driving.
cheers Dan

If you want some great cruiser minded people LCOOl.ORG is a good spot, 80 specific section as well.

The tech section has lots of details on how to mod the above switches as well ;)
