cheapest windscreen replacement

Where's the cheapest place to get a windscreen replaced. Not for the Zook (will do that one myself), for the Suby wagon (bit more complex as it's a lot more curved). Will ring for some quotes soon but just wondering.

My advice would be to call around to all the small independent businesses. The major players, like Windscreen's Obrien and Novas, have contracts with insurance companies which means they can basically charge whatever they want as they are guaranteed business. For example in Brisbane Obriens wanted $340 to replace the windscreen on my Triton, while a small independent guy I called only wanted $195.

Yes as above,

Try your local Panel shop. They claim the $340 price on insurance and get the $195 mobile guy to do it. Just ask who they use and when he will be back there again or get a number and book it it at your place.

Just be carefull where the windscreens are sourced. Some cheapies maybe from China. One of the colleague used to fit them and reckons they are thinner etc...Australian standard???

Great tip, thanks guys! When I only spent 850 on the car in the first place I want to keep it as cheap as possible to get it RWC'd.

How would I know if it passes Australian standards RN, surely if I paid someone to replace it they'd have to comply to standards?

The windscreen should have the appropriate AS stamp on it....I haven't seen a cheap clone but according to my colleague they exist. Have a ring around with some of the smaller operators and ask them about where they source the screens. Compare the answers to the larger franchises that may deal only in local content.
