Hello all "3 litre diesel" out need inform. on V8

Post by GUFUN »

I am one of the many who have had the 3 litre (2004 auto ex NSW police) vehicle fail, spent money, and had it fail again,... finally decided it is time to move on... I have been looking at a possible v8 conversion .

One of the reasons is the wreckers want $6000+ for 3L motors with more k's than the one I blew at 127000 k

I looked at the Nissan bible and didnt find anything that helped.

I am looking for information from people that have done a 185-195kw V8 changeover and used a auto box. I am looking at a 195kw out of a VT , marks adaptors does an adaptor kit for the nissan auto.

I believe that there are issues related to the electronic connections between the V8 ECU and the nissan auto ECU. in the words of some people I have asked it's *!*!ed!

I lined up a good auto electrican very holden savvy and have
spoken to an automatic trans mechanic who is familiar with the nissan transmission.

The trans. mechanic recommended another way, he suggested that I re-use the holden 4L60E transmission (standard) , this way there are no problems with the interconnection with the motor and box . Sounds good ....

He also refered to the need for a new output shaft ( for the holden box) to mate to the (STANDARD) transfer case and a transfer case housing ( I assume this housing is actually an adaptor / plate to support the transfer case ( some one fill in the gaps please) .

If some one has the experience with the above feel free to chip in now...

Things I dont know period....

I assume I'll have to modifiy the transmission tunnel to allow the holden transmission stick shifter to fit....and does that also mean the centre console needs to be modified or replaced...?

I know that the original Nissan front engine mounts are to be cut and new mounts ( holden) need to be welded on. ( marks adaptors do these)

I assume I'll have to modifiy the rear gear box mounting. But does that mean a relocation along the chassis rail., lowering or replacement...?

The electrics and the fuel .. at thie stage dont seem to be a problem. The auto spark builts hotrods as well .

I have spoken to an engineer ( intending to get an engineering certificate ) and he explained that the motor can run on unlead ( only) or end up as a duel fuel.... (extra money further down the track) also the need for the catalytic converter + a few other bits.

Ok, before I am asked I have looked at changing to a manual. too much added cost for now.

The exhaust is relatively straight forward.

WHAT have I missed...????

Need to know ASAP and I appreciate all good actual information. I need to make my informed decision as my car has been playing up for a long time , is stationary and I am pissed off.

P.S. If you know where the parts you recommend are available let me know... Thanks for the time its taken to read this post, now if you could take the time to answer it........

I would be looking at 6L alloy crate, Joel from PGS has done one. Hes on the board to.

6L alloy crate motor around or under 4k now.... VT motors are a shitty 5L there is potentially more power to be had and better economy the new 6L as you can activate lean burn.

$3800 - 3950 on ebay.

Holden has dropped the price heaps. Needs an ECU and complete wiring harness OR aftermaket ignition controller only and run on straight LPG which is easier cheaper option.

6 litre option thanks for the link

[quote="raptorthumper"]$3800 - 3950 on ebay.

Thanks for the link I'll have a chat early moning with my mechanic..

The 6 litre Im not familiar with , whats it Kw which auto tranmission does it mate to. What are the specfic problems relate to this installation, was I right in reading that there is a problem getting the exhaust across to the same size... are the ECU and add on readily available? As I said I dont know this holden motor as a 6 litre.

Ok 270kw with a L680E box now I have to talk to the auto mechanic as well.

I know a mechanic that is doing his own 6 litre conversion in a GU manual. He has costed the whole conversion at 25K with him doing all the work.

That is a lot of dosh . He is utilising the Marks kit but will have none of the conversion outsourced.
