i recently noticed an oil leak on my feroza's engine. I drive a carburated F300 Feroza.
The oil leak seems to be coming from base of the carburator. the part where it meets with the intake manifold. Probably from one of the numerous hoses attached to it. Is this possible? From my limited knowledge i know its just fuel and air thats present here.
I'll try to post some pictures later on so you will be able to see the oil drenched manifold. Its possible that the leak is coming from the valve cover gasket but the thing is the carburator base is wet with oil and im starting to get alarmed by all this.
Oil loss is beginning to be considerable. HELLPPPP!!!

Do you know if your Feroza has a PCV ( positive crankcase ventilation) hose going from the cover on top of the engine (valve cover) to the inlet manifold/ carby?
The oil could be coming out of that at the join. Not all countries had PCV systems fitted to the HD engine though.
Try degreasing the engine and then see where the oil starts to leak from.

hello david,
thanks for your post. yes, we do have that hose that comes from the valve cover to the air cleaner. I replaced the OEM air cleaner a couple of months ago with a SIMOTA air cleaner. It came with a valve cover breather so i replaced the hose with it.
i checked with the downloadable feroza manual and i believe the valve on the intake manifold i was referring to earlier is called the gas filter. This also gets soaked with oil from the couple of hoses on top of it. is it possible that the diaphragm of my fuel pump is already broken and that oil is coming out of the gas filter hoses as a result?
thanks again.

The HD-E engine (like mine) has two hoses that form the PCV function. One is before the throttle butterfly and the other is after on the vacuum side. The theory is that at idle air is drawn into the valve cover through the hose before the butterfly and is sucked out through the other one into the inlet manifold then into the engine where it is burnt. Have you got the two hoses?
Possibly this could have something to do with the problem (because you've disconnected one?)
I'm not sure what filter you're referring to as I'm not familiar with the carby set up on your Feroza. Also is it definitely oil that's leaking and not petrol?

eow david,
come to think of it you may be right about the PCV system not working properly after i replaced the hose with a breather. the breather may be clogged up so very little air is getting into the valve cover. iL try to post some pictures later on for you to see my engine and how it looks like now.
thanks again!!!
p.s.
yup its oil thats leaking and not petrol
