Triton Gear Box

Post by fgi »

Hi All,
I am thinking of purchasing a new Triton. I'm interested to hear any feedback on whether they suffer the same 5th gear issues as my Mazda Bravo did when towing.

I have the MK V6 Triton, '03 model... I'm not sure if the boxes are the same but I have not managed to damage mine yet... Including the towing (yes I am an idiot) of a tandem car trailer with a light truck on board from Melbourne to just north of Ballarat, total of around 3.2t.. I used 5th on the flats and changed to 4th before the hills actually started...

Other than that, towing an 8x5 tandem and an off-road camper, always use 5th on the flats and in 150,000+km, no sign of damage or undue wear...
I wish my lawn was EMO, then it would cut itself...

Mate you would get a bit more response over at www.newtriton.net there are a few guys that have done a lot of towing. None have mentioned anything that I know of though.

This is already very good feed back. The Mazda is costly at 96,000Km due to disintegrating 5th gears. A common issue apparently. Thanks. James
