Miscellaneous engine swap questions

OK, it's actually an EFI conversion, and it's not a 4by. And I won't mention what it is, or everybody will spend more time laughing, and not enough time answering questions.

1. Bodgying together radiator hoses until I can get the car to a professional. Hoses are tight on the steel tube I've got - is it OK to lube them to help get them on?

2. Need a longer EFI hose from filter to fuel rail - needs banjo (?) fittings each end. Where do I go to get something made up? Three auto-parts stores today, and one suggested Pirtek / Enzed. Anywhere else?

3. Running loom through firewall to ECU (above glove box.) Have identified where I can put a large enough hole, but it's behind the shock tower - so I can't get my drill in there... Do those right-angled drill adaptors actually work? Will they work with a 50mm hole saw? Any other options? I have a 32mm hole saw which may be enough - I'll have to test on some ply first.

4. How do people normally insulate/seal the above mentioned hole? I obtained a boot from the donor car, but it's farkin' huge - about 70mm diameter. Do I just cruise a wrecker looking for something suitable? Is there somewhere which stocks such boots new?

5. Is it wrong to drink red wine in the garage? I've got plenty of beer, but I've just opened a really nice Shiraz...

there is absolutly NOTHING wrong with appreciating a nice wine... i recomend a clarence house estate merlot temprinello if you can get your hands on one...

Provided the "until" isn't 12 months or somethin stoopid then yes

The blank rubber grommets are readily available at almost any decent spares shop, Repco should be helpful.
Got a right angled air drill?

As for number 5! There is nothing wrong with wine, but in the garage??? I think you might need some concrete in your coffee

1. yes.

2. enzed, pirtek, ryco, hydraulink. any of these would be your best bet. i used to work for enzed and we'd do that sort of stuff all the time. but watch em, they charge like a wounded bull !

do you have the old fittings? just reuse them and buy some new hose. if the are a crimped fitting let me know and i'll tell you the secret to getting them apart.

3. never used a elcheapo right angled drill attachment but have used a proper one (like an angle grinder with a drill chuck attached) and they work like a charm. see if you can hire one if it will fit in the space, be cheaper and for a one off use. should handle a hole saw no worries if your only drilling firewall (only a couple of mm thick).
any way of drilling from the inside of the car???
drill a smaller hole then use tinsnips (very rough and ugly)

4. clark rubber. they have all sizes of grommets and plugs.

5. YES.
you should be drinking rum, or beer at the very least. pour yourself a galss of concrete and harden the fark up!!!
but at least you have enough sense to enjoy a drink while playing with your toys.
