Vitara Dif Ratios

Post by rodw »

Hi Guys.

I've got the opportunity to buy a pair of diffs complete with axles with ARB lockers installed (and the front diff is steel :) ). To fit them, worst case I will need to change the front CV's to 26 spline.

I have a 92 LWB with a 4 speed auto gearbox. As near as I can make out, that means I should have 5.125 diffs on my car. The new diffs are 4.875 which is about 5% higher gear. At the moment I am only running 29" swampers on 15" rims when I go bush and 205/80 R16's on the road which are about 12mm bigger than the Swampers.

So the question is, will I need to swap my Ring and pinions over now or wait until I wear out my Swampers and put 31" or 32" rubber on?

You'll be OK with the 4.875's but it will take a little edge of the performance but it won't be that noticeable.

Thanks CJ, I'm too old to worry about performance all that much. ;) That was pretty much what I thought..

Go for it. You wont notice the difference. There is also a Vit rockhopper on Ebay while your at it. Then its job done.
