commy 6 into series

Post by aussie_stu »

hey guys, looking for some advice, got a series 3 shorty, and the 2.25 is needing a rebuild, have been thinking of maybe yankin it out and putting in a commy v6, I read somewhere that if you use the holden motor/box then adapt to cruiser 40series transfer it works pretty good.

is this correct? is this the best way to do it? is there a cheaper/better option? or should I scrap those plans and just rebuild the 2.25?

thanx in advance

IT would be a good conversion tho id go for a auto to LT230 and fit 3.54 diffs or maby adapt the comma V6 to a LT95 but also do the raito change to get beta highway running from it
Cheers

LT95 is a combined gearbox and t-case fitted to early rangies and 110s. LT230 is the t-case that replaced the series, and is still fitted to 110s and discos. Stronger than a series t-case, and constant 4x4.

You could leave them on but if worried about possible breakage you would just need the driveflanges to replace them with. I'm not sure if fulltime 4wd is good for your series ujs in the swivels, but you could convert an lt230 to part time.

see I use them just up and down the beach here, and have noticed on both trucks (got 2 of em running same hubs) they sometimes unlock themselves, got caught out one time and nearly ended up with a patrol up my bum. So was thinking of turfing the free-wheelers
