Injector pump rebuild/injector reco TD42

Post by Captain Datto »

The injector pump on my GQ is absolutely pissing out so it's time for a rebuild. Got quoted $1800 for pump rebuild and reco injectors, with me ripping everything off (got no dramas doing that). That run of the mill pricing?

Also got quoted $500 to supply and fit a boost comp. Debates over if they're needed or not aside, is that a decent price?

Try Hiflo for a quote: http://hiflo.com.au/. Very good service from my experience. I got new injectors (not rebuilt) from them for $300 US and they quoted me about $1100 US on a rebuilt IP with a replacement core. Core charge was also around $300. I just got the injectors from them and the IP rebuilt here in Canada. Wish I had also got the rebuilt IP from them as the fuel shop here messed up big time and charged me for their mess up.

I just got my pump rebuilt at arb bendigo. $1670 including a dyno tune, it makes 95kw at the wheels on 35's. Boost compensator was $500 extra and well worth it.

denco in wagga or maybe cooma diesel

arb would only take it somewhere else to get done.

Maybe you just need a seal or 3 replaced rather than a full rebuild

I got on the blower to Andy this morning and I'll be going to him.

I'm quite sure it needs a rebuild. Even if it was just a single seal another one won't be far around the corner. Plus it's blowing a fair whack of black smoke.

Blowing black is not a sign of a worn IP. It is a sign of incomplete combustion caused by overfueling or worn injector tips. That said, I did get my IP rebuilt when it started to leak. You need to pull the pump to do the IP drive shaft seal - the most important one IMO. If it goes, it dumps diesel into your sump and often is not noticed until it is too late. Bad seals are more common on IPs built before 1994 (when they started using Viton type seals). There was only slight wear in my pump which kept the rebuild cost down to under $800 CAN. If somoene quotes you a price on rebuilding it before they open it they are BSing you. They can't know until it is opened up and tested. They can give you a max and min price range or a pice on an off the shelf rebuilt pump. They can also give you an exact quote on thier labour to pull and reinstall the pump and to set it properly. (That is where I got screwed over). I recommend taking it off and on yourself to save some cash. The set-up needs a special timing tool. Before doing this, check to see if the rebuild warrently is still valid if they don't do the removal and install. Some places won't warrenty the pump work unless they do everything.

pump is leaking very occasionally ,but it has to be fixed and rang diesel tec slacks creek and they diagnosed the problem as a switch on the top of the pump at the rear.
$16.70 for the part and half an hours labor. If that fails to fix the leak i will be putting a good 2nd hand pump that i have on for the time being.

Canuck,

we never quote prices until we receive the pump, strip and inspect it. Its unfair to both customer and us. We give a guestimate based on previous experiences with pumps.

That is very true well my pump is fanackered as the diesel cut off switch was not the issue.
So now fiting a good 2nd hand pump and getting a quote on mine.
