Vitara engine swap...

Post by gattie64 »

Hi Guys, I'm new around here....... so please forgive any dumb questions

I've got a '92 JLX 3 door Vitara with one dead G16A engine.....

What is the most cost effective engine swap.... don't want to spend a lot... would like to retain existing box etc.... if possible...

Appreciate your thoughts.... ;)

Cheers - Gattie

Most effective swap would be to put another G16A back in it really.

If you want more power theres always the later model Vitara J20 but its a lot more work and I don't think it'll fit your box so you'd really need a donor car.

Hey want33s thanks for that, what about the 16B is that much hassle.. :?:

I've got extractors fitted so not too sure if the ports on the head match...

you're G16A extractors wouldnt fit on a G16B. Square vs round ports

Swapping a G 16A to G15B will be a lot of work. G16B's are EFi and will require en EFI fuel tank, VSS fitted into your cluster, fitment of the G16B engine loom, airbox, and lots of other small things.

No, the ports are not the same, G16a's have rectangular ports and G16Bs have round ports.

You could go forced induction, but that would require quite a bit of money.

I've had a couple of Vitaras with dead engines, and my 2c worth would be to throw a set of rings, bottom end bearings and a head gasket in the one you already have for the sake of a couple of hundred $$$

...if you can do it yourself.

Otherwise, spend close to $1k and get someone else to plonk one in for you.
