front diff help please

Post by cms »

hi there, can anyone confirm for me please...

been reading up on the mod of swaping the front diff of my l200/triton which is a 7.25 to a 8" off the 3.0 V6 paj to fit an ARB front locker in

trying to source a larger diff now, can some please confirm for me that the larger 8" diff has 10 bolts going around the diff case rather then the 8 which the 7.25 has,

some great info on here about the mod guys! nice one!!!

just when phoning round the breakers it is hard working trying to tell them theres two differant sizes!

and im sure i read somewhere that the easiest way to tell is with the 10 bolts rather than 8

thanks alot :)

here are some pics of my old front diff. its a 4.875, 8 inch, from a 93 3ltr v6 soft top superselect pajero, gen 2. it has 8bolts holding the backing plate on but the head is built into the housing. ill get some pics later tonight of the 5.3, 7.25 thats i pulled out for the SAS.
i think the 10 bolt diff your refuring to is the 9" rear diff of the 3ltrs and 2.5dt.

when ur looking at a trruck see if it had a v6....either by the monuts or the bellhousing or the comp plate on the fire wall...easyiest way to tell if it v6 it the bigger diff.

dont supose you chaps could help me again, picked up a paj front diff today and it turns out it was the bloody smaller one!

4 hour round trip and 50 qiud worse off

can anyone with the larger front diff 8" measure the front of it for me from top to bottom, the smaller diff measures 230mm from top to bottom and im guessing the 8" should be quite abit bigger,

so when i make my next atemped to get a diff i can get the bloke to measure it before i leave the house and it be the rite one!

thanks :D

it should be the 8", it is the 4.8 from a v6 man so in theory... ill go get my 5.3 i took out when i did the SAS and measure that... you may be lucky and have a 8" cause im fairly sure they were visably differant. check back later tonight.

i should have remembered, when i changed diffs i had to use the diesels front driveshaft as it was longer....

;) ;) ;)

measurements taken on the top of the diff, from the face of the pinion flange (where the drive shaft mounts to) to the face the ring gear cover bolts too. doesnt include the cover or the bulge.

fark im good....

hope thats what your after. if you lived in nz you could have mine.
