power steering setups on the hilux there seems to be a difference between the petrol and the diesel ones in the 84 -88 models can they be adapted to fit each other or the petrol for petrol and the diesel for the diesel

Yes deisel and petrol pumps are different and wont swap.
however the rest will interchange including the lines which are also different but still fit. One has a banjo fitting the other has a flare fitting at the pump.
