WINCHLINE

Post by cooki_monsta »

i know i posted this before christmas, and i dont want to revive the old thread, but here it is again!

EOI for winchline synthetic winch rope. i have since purchased a length and have found it to be of exceptional quality, and fade resistant so far :)

thus i am now going to start another group buy if enough people are interested!

i will need 10 people to start with for the sale!

add your name to this list using this template

<username>, <rope type>, <eyelet style>, <width>, <length>, <color>, <hook option>

so it will look like this

1. Cookimonsta - Trail line, Tube Thimble eye, 3/8", 125', green, no hook (as hooks can be purchased from arb for $8

Why is this their prefered option:
Winch Safety Thimble™ Eye - Our Preferred Option
http://www.winchline.com/vtl_eye_options.htm

It looks like you would have to use a bow shackle and you wouldn't be able to use a very heavily rated one as the hole does not look that large :? Other opinions :?:

Good on you for making the effort.

I suppose the key question is how much cheaper than list will it be, and what about freight etc.

Rockstomper are cheaper and a good quality product according to others on this board.

http://www.rockstomper.com/catalog/recovery/ropes.htm
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

How much discount are you expecting for group buy?

The one I want (Part VTL516100+SST - 5/16" X 100' Viking Trail Line with Stainless Steel Thimble Eye) is usually $US167.

thats correct its for a bow shackle, its the new 'in thing' apparently, how ever i choose the hook connection option :D as the winch is more versatile with a hook!

I've got one. The thimble eye is huge. Can use any size shackle you would ever need.
Does kinda stick out the front and can reduce approach angle.

Just lookin at rockstomper, for the XD9000 they say
Warn XD9000
Wire Rope: 5/16x125
Rope repl: 5/16x125
Alternate rope: 3/8x100

Now how often would that extra 25ft make a difference.. How many times winching have you run out of rope/wire?

I'd be happier with the thicker rope, rather over engineer than under...

Also like the look of their rope guard

Thoughts?

looked on rockstomper

my configuration worked out 5 dollars dearer from winchline.

if you factor in the free line protector and fairlead and no shipping, sounds like a better deal to me.

Cookie Monster did you fit your line to a high mount?
did 125' of 3/8 fit on the drum alright?

looking on the warn website my high mount is supposed to have 150' of 5/16 steel cable. will more rope fit because it is synthetic?

I've had a Rockstomper and have a Winchline rope. Nothing wrong with the Rockstomper but I like the Winchline better. To me it appears better made. I wouldn't get the Winchline rope protector as it's too thick. I cut it off and fitted standard rock climbiing rope protector much like the Rockstomper protector. I made it long enough to cover the entire last roll on the drum for UV protection.

I have the Viking Combo Line with Tube Thimble Eye. I was in the US last week and should have brought some back with me

Cookie- have you tried Rockstomper?? Maybe play 1 against other? See if you can get a better deal.

well rockstomper sells it
Prefer to build your own winch line? We're happy to supply plain rope, cut to whatever length you'd like. Loop braiding, terminal ends, etc., are not included, but we'll be happy to build a custom winch line for you, too.
5/16" synthetic rope, $1.62/ft.
3/8" synthetic rope, $2.20/ft

um, you might be able too, i still have about 2 or 3 spools clear on the drum so im guessing 150 would be the limit for a non lengthened drum

and no bogged i have not tried rockstomper, i am running this group buy due to a request, and therefore dont have time to shop around!

guys as a guide I have an XD9000 and can fit about 135' of 5/16th trail-line with the HD rope protector. Its tight but it fits ok....

For big trucks I wouldn't go any less than 3/8th!

The stuff frays even when running over soft clay like on andersons track when it was in season...especially when you are doing a long winch and your hd protector will only cover one area of contact with the ground. Some people in the rock climbing frat use fire hose with cut and then velcroed to make easy on easy off moveable protector as extra protection on other exposed bits. It's great but I wouldn't go smaller than 3/8th on a patrol if you want it to last and you actually use your winch...if it's wank factor ur after then 5/16th will be fine... :D

Ok i can see a big problem with this thread!

1st you have no pricing, no real lines of guide to work from
2nd what are they/you offereing to do this bulk buy?

Confirmed prices need to be listed before you get a decent amount of interest

If you had confirmed price listings at 10 orders, 15 orders 20 orders etc etc you would get a hell of a lot more interest, damn ill be in like a shot once i see some figures!

Get some figures up, make a decent main listing(once confirmed from seller) in the 1st post please

Geez man, every different combination of rope type, thickness, length, line protectors, eye type and hook will give a different price.

He has given a rough guideline of free shipping and maybe free aluminium hawse. Isn't that enough to go off (That alone is over $80 in savings!).

Did you read this?

He probably won't get a real indication until he tells the company exactly what he is after, hence needing the EOI.

I sorta agree with Jet.

maybe Cookie can list the names and confirmations so far.
See how many short of 10 or over he is.. then if hes close to 15, he can see what deal he can get on 15 and list that.

That way people will know whats happening a bit clearer.

If he doesnt get 10 people what price/deal...

You aren't 'locking yourself in'... it's a damn expression of interest that's all.

No money is being handed over yet... just get 10 people together to start with that probably want to buy it.
