It seems my glowplugs are stuffed after onlt 1 year However I have noticed that when I glow it to start the soloniod runs for about 10secs then I can hear it click off then start the ute no worries. What I wonder about is close to 1 minute later there is another click from the soloniod and the lights get more glow in them.
My question is: Do Tritons have a two stage solonoid for the plugs and if so what should be the times? Maybe I'm eating plugs because the second timer is staying on too long and copping a caning.
Cheers,
Andrew

OK, I'll reply to my own question. Took my ute in today to see whats happening to the plugs. Found out I was half right. It seems my plugs stay on for 2 1/2 minutes which is right but they are getting full voltage for that amount of time
A new timer thingy is about $600 so I'm going for a manual push button switch on the dash.

mate any chance of more info as my paj does the same with its plug eating addiction...
is your dash switch going to regulate the amount of time the solenoid is erergised for???
did you just get a regular mechanic to check them or did you take it to mitsubishi service?
thanks andrew

No worries icemanpaj. Got it all sorted yesterday.
They put in a push button switch in one of the button blanks to the right of the steering wheel. I now have to hold this in when the key is on "Acc" for about 10 secs or so.
From what I gather they re-routed the power from the timer to the switch so I now completely control the amount of time the plugs are on for.
These guys are just local mech's but pretty cluey.
All said I haven't tried it out yet so I hope it works. They said it can be quite a common problem for Mitsubishi's. Hope this helps.

thanks vineboy,
sounds like a good idea i'll do the same. sounds like a good weekend project after my new plugs come in. hopefully it will cut down on the amount of plugs used.
cheers andrew
