Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi All,

We had a (home made) front recovery point fail over the weekend (yes chris i'm looking at you) on a club trip and this has made me wonder about what great ideas people have come up with for recovery points at the front of their suzukis.

I know on mine we have always used the front shipping loop - and this has never caused any issues - but i have since seen one of these break off (yes chris - you again ).

So what are you all using to recover those zooks? Or, should i more accurately say - what are you using to tow out other vehicles in reverse?

It must be Chris, becuase I have used mine to recover other people for years with no dramas. I've used it to snatch a Hilux out a few times (Stevie Gs) a Middy and a Cruiser as well as a few zooks. Even had the whole car airborne trying to get the landcruiser out of a boghole.

A safer option I would imagine would to use a rated recovery hook bolted to the chassis with correct bolts.

My front crosmember is slightly bowed but the eye is still working\attached
The rear I use my rear bar with a pin through the tow hitch ..

I would like a stronger point out the front .. which one day I will do .. most likely with 2 inch box and a pin as well .. in the front bar (that I will one day build .. after I one day get the Zuk working again)

decent recovery hooks aren't very dear, but finding a position that is safe, convenient and suitable is not easy on the front. this time going to use a similar idea to the rear of joeys. it will be a lump of 8 - 10mm thick plate, bolted to the same place as bull bar, but also wrapping round the cross member, so not relying on the weld/bolts alone. may alsy drill and crush sleeve a proper rated boltable hook onto chassis somewhere. its got to be accessible, even if under water, in mud, or hidden by rocks. also dont want it to be a hang up position, either. thats my next job, apart from wheels/tyres, christover.

That loop is a tow point, not a recovery point.

Yeah I have used it sucessfully numerous times, but I have also ripped it clean out of the crossmember took out the steering damper at the same time too
