ok, i have a set of 32" simex pedes, and they are getting a little low onm the centre lugs... is it possible to groove out the areas where marked, as this section sits higher then the base of the rubber.(if that makes sence)
has anyone done this and to what degree of success?
also can any tell me where the wear marker is on these?
Zooks are for people that aren't afraid of angles and who have nothing to compensate for
yeh i had my JT2s done when i had them, i bought them second hand and the centres were a little worn but outer lugs were still massive. Cost me about $80 for 4 tyres from memory, couldve been cheaper i dunno, theres a thread on here where i was asking if you could do it, the price is in there somewhere,
it worked well, i used them, and onsold them and the buyer was really happy with them too, they may even be still goin who knows.

il have a crack after TTC
nothing to lose really, just dont be greedy doing it... do small bits at a time.
like bogged said, do bits at a time. i have also known guys who have done a set more than once, and i remember someone telling me when i was asking that they 'rekoned' that simex have about 10-12mm or 'grooveable rubber' before you hit plies. How true that is im not sure, but i got a good 7-8mm out of the centres when i got mine done.

maybe we find someone with a fawkt tire and hack it with grinder/hacksaw thru to see.. would be interesting to do with several tires.
ahhaha funny you say that bogged, shouldve seen when i tried to regroove them with the grinder while they were still on the car.... probably wasnt the best idea i ever had.... gave up from all the noise and smell and gave them to the local tyre place to regroove.
just to add to that, i know pyro said hes got a regroover, but im not sure on the legalities of regrooving tyres, especially by a tyre shop. these guys did it cos theyre more a truck tyre place and i presume they do it all the time...anyone know legalities???

It is only legal to do when the tyre says "REGROOVABLE" in big letters on the side. Check out a few truck/bus tyres, most non retreads have that on the side. I have never seen a car/4x4 tyre that is though.

i got a set of 32" pedes here waiting to get thrown out. ill give it a go
I did a set of 34x11.5 JT11 about 3 or 4 years ago. I took about 6-7mm out of the centre as descibed above with not issues. I used them for a few months and then sold them! They re still going fine now!
So I say go for it, just take care like has been said.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
i meet a gut who regrooved his jeep servise tyres on his mk.
With.............. what for it.................... A circle saw, he said it was ok apart from the hot rubber and the smoke, said he did a bit every night for a few weeks.
Came out a treat.
I tried to get my local tyre shop to re groove my ET's and they wouldn't Even after I stressed they where only for offroad use. Depends who you go to I guess, but its certainly not legal unless the tires are designed to be re grooved.
take em to a shop that do a majority of their business in truck tyres, they wont even question it or look at you twice. Tell em youre paying beer/cash and dont need a recepit and youll have em done by that afternoon.
