sierra v 4runner

Post by 89 4Runner »

The 4runner is a larger car and can fit more people/gear in it, but the sierra is lighter and can go further with less mods. I'm a big fan of both vehicles and currently own a 4runner, but would love a sierra to build up as a serious offroad truck.

If it was me, I would go the 4runner. You might think yeah that cos he owns one but they would be much more comfortable and practical for day-to-day driving, camping load carrying, towing and handle better on road. Also, you've got so much more room in the runner, I camped in the back of mine and it was a bit squeezy but there is no chance doing that in a bloody zook.

An 85 model runner would be leaf sprung solid front end I think so excellent off - road and for what you want to do with it, you would not even be testing it. If the hardcore bug bit down the track you could easily make it into a wicked machine with twin lockers, a decent lift and crawler gears.

To get 31s on the zook and WORK PROPERLY, it would have required more modification, 4runner its just a bolt them on job. So you are already getting to your mod limit with the zook. Whereas with 31s on the runner, you are only just getting started.

I spent a whole Sunday going round a pretty tough track with two zooks. One had transfer case troubles all day (yeah maybe just bad luck), the other no mechanical issues but with steep rocky hillclimbs because they are such short wheelbase they started to bounce around too soon. On really steep stuff with ruts or holes really short wheelbase cars are just bloody dangerous.

Anyway just my opinion.

id go the zook, they are just so much more capable! you wont have as much room as in the runner, but unless your taking the wife and kids camping for a week, then it doesnt really matter. they are made for the beach coz they are so light, and you wont have a worry in the world.

i think by 95 they had coils on all corners to... so be more comfortable a ride....(not 100%sure on this, but i think it was about then they came out with em...)
