How to identify which bearing is making the noise.

There is a horrible noise coming from something at the front of the engine its sort of a clackity clack clack noise if anyone can follow that. I suspect its a bearing on one of the pulleys there. How can you identify which one it is (if thats it anyway) when there is so much engine noise which makes it difficult to narrow down.

if you think it's something external you can use a garden hose from your ear to the motor to pinpoint the area. or if you think its internal get a screwdriver that has metal the whole way through it put one end to your ear and the other on the motor where its coming from to tell you if its bottom end, which piston etc. just be careful the screwdriver doesn't hit any moving parts or it'll know you out

I'd say its definately the click-clack dampener thats gone, just going from what you've said.

I've always found the screwdriver trick best, but BE CAREFUL!!!

Put a funnel on the end, that way you can isolate the noise by placing the funnel right up to your ear reducing backgound noise.

check AC belt tensioner and idler pullies, usually the first to go.

The idler under the A/C clutch goes to, is the noise there with the A/C on? The idler under the clutch isn't in use with the A/C compressor running.
