Post by Wadezz »

Well it all happend last saturday coming home from camping out the night with a few mates. I was on a road called Yarra road, when my back right tire blow and the back end slid out it his the lip of the gravel road and acted like a big sail and just fliped my 4wd onto its roof in slow motion. I was only goign about 30kms an hour. Totaled the car but thank god everyone was okay. We got it home but its a total mess. Im now getting a 80 series landy, I hope:) i see it tommorow its a 4.2L manual  here's some pics of my pajero.

Wade,

That's real bad news.
Glad you are OK.

I hate to see any 4x4 being scrapped, especially a Gen1.

M8 i had my car insured there for they get to take it away but i can buy it back of them so depending on how much they want for it, is weather or not ill get it back, but if i do buy it back i will be selling all the parts i can and the gear box is perfect. How much would u give me for it m8, if i can sell it to you.

4x4 im seeing the cruiser tommorow now because its on a farm in a shed so my dads m8 is bringing it into town tonight so ill go see it tommorow after work i hope

Being a 92 it'll be a 2.5 tdi. Personally I find them gutless as, especially in a 2 ton + truck. They are 73kw and about 240NM.

Hey mate,
Yea the 80 seriouse i dnt know much about them, but have a drive of it. i drove my girlfriends parents car it is a diesel non turbo, im guesing the 4.2 ant that thing was gutless, my 97 2.8 turbo diesel goes heaps better, picks up much quicker and you dont have to rev it as much as the cruiser

Wade, the 4.2 80 series without a turbo is not powerful at all. They are a great off roading moter but even a 2.5 turbo will see it off on the highway i'd say. I have driven a 80 no turbo on 35's. It would simply not pull 5th gear on a flat road.

I would have thought you could ahve got a 2.8 for the price of an 80 series? Well over here you would anyway.

Wade, sorry to hear about your Paj - if nothing else, it's a powerful (and expensive) lesson on how easily things can very quickly go wrong. I'm glad nobody was hurt - other than the Paj. You achieved an impressive amount in a short time, so hopefully your next 4by will receive similar attention.

Just a note, to help us older folk. A Landy is a pommy made 4by with somewhat dubious reliability, and a reputation for leaking oil out and water in - also known as Land Rover. What you're looking at buying is a Japanese made 4by with a pretty good reputation all round - typically called a 'Cruiser, to differentiate from the other one.

Calling a 'Cruiser a "Landy" is both confusing to us older folk, and probably insulting to both Toyota and Land Rover lovers.

Oh, and my brother has had a 4.2 NA 80 series for years, and, although it's no rocketship, it cruises alright on the highway and performs well off-road (not as well as my Paj, of course. ) - but he only has 31s.

oo hey scott,

Yeh m8, i went and looked at the 80 series today, taking it for a test run tommorow its looks good a lot of lil things need to be done not so much a lot of money just time and effort which is not a problem for me. its got no dents no rust and engine runs really well. just need a lot of lil stuff fixed up on it to make it look really good but no worrys for me. needs a new clutch and a new steering rod and thats all.

If i buy it ill post pics on my 80 series in my fav section ofcorse the pajero section:P  so yas will have to but up with a cruieser in t he crew
