Hilux rear brake adjustment probs.

Post by ausyota »

The other day I did my rear brakes along with seals and wheel bearing in the back of my Hilux.
Problem is now my drivers side keeps adjusting itself up too tight untill the brakes are dragging.
I have tried pulling the rubber gromet and winding them down only to have them back up too tight within a couple of days :bad-words: .
So anyone know why is it so?
Is there a little spring or something I need to replace?
Paul.

i had a similar sounding problem with 2 of my previous cars.... a vk drums on rear and a vn with discs...the problem i had after chnageing everythin other the pistons.... they kept sticking causeing brake drag...i thought the pistons were ok..but they had tiny scores on them not alowing them to relase properly.

did u change ur pistons?
Cheers, Hayden!

No I didnt replace the slave cylinders.
But I dont think that is the problem.
The luxs use an adjuster that tightens up the brake adjustment when you pull on the handbrake.
The problem seems to be that its adjusting them up too much for some reason.
After a few days the wheel can barely be turned at all by hand!
For the time being I have just been trying to reduce the amount of times I use the handbrake and it seems to have stopped (or at least slowed down the prob).
But I need to fix it.
Paul.
