Tap Tap tasp noise and not the tappets

Post by steveoo »

I have a GQ 4.2 Petrol 4 days ago a tapping noise started. thought it was the tappets and took it into the mechanic and he had a look at it wasnt.

The noise is there all the time but only very faint when at idiel (almost cant hear it) but at about 1800RPM you can hear it tap tap tap. He had a look and tried a few things and cant seem to pin point it. Does any one else had this problem before??

I have the same noise and its not the tappets either.

Had another tapping noise the other day (sounded like a rocker was broken) and it ended up being a lose bolt on exhaust manifold. Tightened it p and all ok but still have that first noise :(

I'm with Chunderlicious. My mates car was doing the same thing. Was definately more noticable under acceleration. Ended up being exhaust manifold gasket. Put some extractors on while you've got it off
