Milford Cargo Barrier In a Disco 95

Post by kitacooch »

Hi there, just bought a 2nd hand Milford Cargo Barrier with no instructions.
Just wondering if anyone has any pics of one installed and or copy of instructions on how to install it. Not too worried about it, just don't want to start drilling holes if and where i don't need to. Oh and it came with some arms un-used still in the bag, not sure what they for??
Cheers

No i got nothing but sent email to Milford expressing my shock that they didn't have any on their web site and they faxed me some the other day, however the ones they faxed are only 2 pages and havn't had time to read yet but apper little vague. I have discovered that i have no bolts, to mounting plates etc, just the 4 arms. Dissapointing when it was advertised as have all components.
If you do have the time to post the instructions would be keen to take a look, or if you prefer to Fax them i will PM my fax.
Cheers

Will Milford sell these as additional parts, say for example for people that are setting up 2 position barriers???

You can get a Fitting Kit, consists of the mounting bolts etc, they also supply spare parts, brackets etc. I had a similar experience when I moved my barrier from one RR to the next. From memory the fitting kit for a RR was about $80.00

I think you will find the extra brackets in still in packaging discussed above allow for the fitment of the cargo barrier in two positions. Swap the brackets around and the cargo barrier is an extra foot forward in your D1

I have one in my Disco in Melbourne if you want to look at one.

When I used to work for a Milford Distributor they were not keen on selling fitting kits as they didn't know if the barrier had been damaged.

Once fitted to the car it is not easy to remove the fitting kit.

I might have the parts you need amongst my bolt and plate collection but you would need to have a look and see what you need.

I got mine second hand too for about $100.

I then asked around a lot of very handy people and paid $200 odd for TJM to fit it along with all the kit etc.

From what I can gather from people who have fitted their own it is money well spent. Particularly as the kit is around $100 anyways.

:) If you end up fitting it yourself let me know.

I have just recently fitted a second hand ausguard barrier into the back of my 98 Discovery ($110). I was priveleged to witness the dismantle of it out of the wreck and the positioning of the barrier fittings were very difficult to get to. So much so I walked away with the bolts, arms and no fixing plates (the top ones). So, on arriving home I set myself to finding an alternative arrangement. I ended up modifying the supplied arms to allow me to fix the cargo barrier to the top and bottom seat belt mounts.

Now, I know all of the purists will be jumping up and down and screaming "you can't do that", but with the expected luggage I will be carrying in the rear of the disco, the strength of my mounting points will never come into question.

As far as the legality of the mounts in terms of "IF" they fail during an accident, my issues will be more concerned on justifying the oversize tyres, 3 inch suspension lift and the 1 inch bodylift I intend to fit soon.

Kittacooch, I can email you photos when I'm back in the office of the mounting points if you like.

Cheers
