hilux gear box transfer case

Post by Man of Cheese »

changing the gear oil on my recently purchased 97 sr5 hilux, I found a hose 1/2 inch in dia going from gear box to t/case. The filler plugs have been modified to fit this hose. Has any body seen or heard of this done. Is it a benifit for oil levels.

The seal between the box and case may be shot leaking one's oil into the other. This is the remedy, although I'm unsure how it works.

It is so the oil can self level between the two boxes.
Instead of one filling and the other emptying this keeps them more even or at least some lubrication in them both.

The seals are know for failure.
Kind Regards,

Yeah don't panic. My mate is a gearbox specialist and I had issues in my hzj cruiser and he did exactly this to mine and said not to worry about it. I did another 200000ks like this and now another mate has been driving the car for the last 3 years and is still perfect. I would say the lux would be very similar.
