busted gearbox

gday all

lost reverse gear in my gearbox on the counter shaft i think its called. the main shaft with gears 1-5 is fine. my question is is it work stripping the main shaft ouit to keep as a spare incas emy new box goes one day?

just asking as im striped one torx screw and snaped one torx bit and have given up for the day. is it worth the effort?

Depends on the box in question...
If they are rare and exotic/expensive save every part you can.
If they are cheap and plentiful then spend your time doing something more enjoyable like emptying a box of beer!

they are plentiful but i dunno about cheap. its a 5spd box out of a ln106 lux

its a toyota so expect the usual toyota tax. Most toyota wreckers should have them so id do a c/over with the one ya have.
1999 SQ625 Manual Grand Vitara. Lifted, Twin Locked, 31' Extremes, dual Batteries, Winch.
Lots of custom gear as I cant afford the proper stuff.

Go see Gary at Gearboxes WA in Tate St Welshpool. Did a complete rebuild on my ln111 box 3 weeks ago. Highly recomend him. Or at least give him a call and ask him about your problem, very helpful. Good bloke 2. Regards Jaz.

ive got a second hand box in the lux im just pulling apart the old one. so i dont need a rebuild or anything just wondering if its worth the trouble
