1ltr transfer into a NT drover

swapped the transfer in foolsp33d drover on sat and i thought id share what was needed to do the conversion.

It was not a straight bolt in as first thought. there were some small differences.
we put a 1ltr case with the 4x4 switch into the NT drover
rear shaft bolted up with no mods. It was with the front shaft and jackshaft where the problems were. both had the same bolt spacing but the inner locating rings are slightly different in size and required the flanges to be swapped over. (This is not always as easy as first thought especially if they never been touched before)

Another difference was the size of the holes in the arms where they attach to the chasis. the late 1ltr case had really big holes (about 20mm) and the 1.3 arms only had 8mm holes. So arms had to be swapped.

even still the swap only took about 3hours to do and we had alot of fun swapping the flanges, that alone took about 1 hour.

If anyone is looking to do this conversion or has any questions i'd be happy to answer them.

just remember people there are some 1 litre switch light transfer cases that don't have the same front splines as 1.3's.

HUGE  for B4T!

The difference in driving home was amazing! I actually was able to use 5th gear! no real chance yet to give low range a work out but come the next few weeks !

Them outputs were a right PITA!

while on the NT topic.. driveshafts.. B4T and I were in discussion and the ones we have seen had smaller driveshafts(1litre type) yet mine has the larger WT style. can any of the NT owners confirm if theirs had or has the larger or smaller from factory!? Possibly being the drover, Holden did an upgrad in the changeover!?

again thanks B4T! I owe ya a few brews!!
hope the missus wasnt to upset with ya for tinkerin with the toys!

Cheers mate.

Fools.

the difference we found was not with the size of the flange or the spline but with the inner round lip that keeps everything aligned properly. they were slightly different in size. only by about 3mm but enough to cause a head ache.

oh and fool when ya get them vit brakes we shall have a few brews while we put them on..
