storage drawers
storage drawers
Well time for some drawers for the back of the GU. Living in Kal we have pretty crappy (read very corrigated roads) here. So, I need a drawer that can cop a pounding on these sorts of roads. At the moment I am leaning towards black widow but the price is a killer.
Can anyone recommend any other manufacturers that are up to the task and maybe a little cheaper?
edit : looking at two drawer with fridge slide on top.
Cheers Pete

I would build them yourself, or have someone else build them to your specs.
Bought drawers are not without their faults.
I have had outback and black widow and if I did it again I would go the black widow, as you can move them from model to model, without replacing the main unit, just the wings and the mounting kit ( within reason.. troopy drawers wont go in a rav4....)
ie 80-100 series, and gq-gu etc.

05 Patrol ST-S 4.2 Tdi with some stuff.
I've been looking at this too.
Best price for a reasonable looking drawer I found was at http://www.bestoffroad.net.au/.
I don't have one, never seen one in the flesh, so I can't tell you any more than that about them.
Ebay has 2 sellers who do 750-900 priced units if you search. One of them might be this guy though.
I'd consider making some myself, weld up a steel frame, ply on top, steel framed ply drawer (prob just make one drawer if I'm doing my own). But dunno where to get good drawer runners.

There is no substitute for quallity.
The only reason draws such as black widow and outback are exspensive is because they are great draws. The old boy had black widow drawers in his 100 and swore by them. took them to the cape. Cheap stuff is usually cheap for a reason, there not made to take a bashing, just made for the beach and highway tourers.
If i was you i would save up a bit longer and get the stuff that has been tested for the conditions your in.

this dude os on ExplorOz alot. From what i have seen of the draws and what his customers have had to say, they are a good system at a good price. Just like you i have looked at all the top of the range stuff and the prices always get to me. Whe i get mine,,,i'll get them from him.roverrat wrote:Seem pretty good value for what you get. Lots of reasons, really.kebwaa wrote:Cheap stuff is usually cheap for a reason
Lower overheads.
Lower marketing costs.
Flashy website development costs
Less profit at the manufacturing end
Fewer middle-men resellers taking their cut
This guy seems to be avoiding all of that, which would account for at least $500 a pop, perhaps $1k. When you allow for that, it's probably the same priced unit without the extra crap you don't get anything out of. =)

Keep an eye out on EBAY for a second hand set of the good drawers (outback and black widow). I picked up at set of Outback Drawers for a GQ for $800 and then sold the cago barrier that came with them for $300 so they cost me $500.
I've been wrapt with the outback drawers and they have made camping life so so so much easier. I don't know how I managed without them to be honest.
