Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Had one of those ideas that will either work out good or lead to a whole heap of flaming so,
After checking out reverse wrap springs and thinking that it could possibly lower my zuk buy atleast an inch but I have too many other bills atm.
So I was looking at an old flat main I had laying near the pipe bender, it looks possible to reset it in reverse (eyes at the bottom) but not sure on strenght.
Although in spoa axle they do get inverted not sure how constant inverted running will go.
If its possible I,ll just do the main and fit it to my current pack.
Im only thinking of this as I have dead flat spoa on toys but would like a little lower.

Zook owners tend to do lots of this to try and save a $! I think its a good idea.

I guess all you need to do is talk to relevant pros in the area and give it a crack. You might end up wasting your money by going the cheap option (which i've found just leads to spending more in the long run)...but it could work. Or it might pay to get some reverse wrap springs made up here in oz rather than importing them...

nic i don't think it will be a problem . i've done this before in street cars and low rider utes to get them down as low a possible .

I,d almost convinced myself it was a stupid idea but thats a good point the low riders have been running themlike that for years.
I wasnt going to be spending $ to get it done its a seirra not a vit
Ive reset my springs a few times was just going to reverse the arch on the main (its nearly flat anyway) and leave therest of the pack as is.
Just a crazy idea.

A local mechanic has been doing this exact thing for years, and he still gets ALOT of work for it.. must be the goods!!

Holy crap I had a good idea
Been talking about it today with other 4wd orientated mates and they think it could work.
My only concern is the spring breaking, would reversing it shorten the spring life any more than the other punishment we dish out?

your spoa so if you springs are runnig flat you would be invering the spring every time you drive it.

i think some one on here would of had a problem with breaking spring from inverting by now if its going to happen.

Yep that was my thinking too, I,ll give it a go on the weekend and see how it goes.

nik if the spring leaves r in good nik they wont break . spring leaves r prett flex able . i run a 4 leaf pack in a froty series i use for comps . it soa as well it flex's great .the spring packs r the factory ones out off it less 2 leaves

I got a spare main and reset it today, the theory works BUT with my shackle angle and flat springs it aint going to happen.

The main is nearly touching the shackle mount at rest so it will hit when the spring travels.

nic u should do a shackle reversal or make some new front mounts ,just a thought

I know! I think when time allows I,ll redo the mounts.
I think the front mounts were done that way as it was probly easier than doing a frame extension but it adds an extra inch to the overall height so I dont really like it.
If I do a s/r Id have to get it re engineered.

what about just going a bit longer shackle? get the ends away from each other

I see what your saying and it may well work butnot sure how much shackle "lift" you would need to get the benifit of "lowered" springs. im over it now although it did lower it by about 2".
Hopefully do a chassis extension and weld the shackle mount to that instead of the drop bracket.
