TD42 Patrol custom intercooler pics
It's been something of a long term project but I've nearly finished building a custom top mount intercooler to suit GQ/GU TD42 turbo diesels. pics are below. Please note: the pics don't show an inlet pipe into the i/cooler as I haven't put one in yet
I haven't decided whether to set it up for factory, Safari, or DTS, I'm hopeful that all 3 will be pretty close if they are all set low on the block. Denco systems with the high mount turbo's I think will probably be too difficult to setup.
Regards Andrew.

Intercooler

I'll second that!
Would be 'full sick' on my truck.
As soon as it was made idiot proof, someone went and designed a better idiot.
looks very similar to a mazda rx7 sIV/sV intercooler, might be an even cheaper option.
i picked up 2 for $200 dollars and had them joined together to make one large intercooler.
i've had tanks and outlets made/fabricated and moved and that work above is very neat.
you could make a lot of money of the ricer boys!!

I'll probably build another one so I can get an accurate idea on just how long it takes to build it, the 1st one always takes the longest.
I'm toying with the idea that for those with body lifts you can probably get away with an even thicker core. Currently I'm using a 55mm thick core compared with DTS' 38mm and I reckon I could possibly use a 73mm thick core on cars with body lifts
That gives a volume nearly twice that of DTS together with a core which is already more efficient than theirs.
I was also talking with a guy at the swap meet today who has just bought a DTS turbo and intercooler kit to suit the Toyota 1hz engines and it just happens he needs a custom oil blowby canister built so I may be able to have a good look at one of their Yota i/coolers too
so maybe I'll build one of them 1st as I've already got a i/cooler core ready for the next project.
Unfortunately the core size makes it impossible to use an off the shelf core so I have to order custom sizes, last time I got one twice the size I needed and cut it down between the tubes to get 2 cores.
Modman, I've done the same with Mazda cores as you but having seen inside I have to say I'm not a big fan of their cores. That being said they are much better than the pile of s##t i/cooler Toyota build for their Landcruiser factory turbo diesels.
I think I'll stick to building i/coolers using brand new cores, at least I get a core that I want and don't have to compromise.
