HOME MADE TUBE BENDER?
Just checked out Pro tools website stating they will e-mail plans to whoever responds, for their D.I.Y. Tube bender.
Anyone had a crack at building their own lately, and with how much success?
Cheers, Dano.
P.S. was looking to buy a cheapie from trade tools, but have heard mixed report of these, especially those cheap formers/dies.
It's for making exo-cages.

price is quite good for those benders...Hekta wrote:
JD2 bender is the shizz. They are available here. I do know OPW sells them, and maybe others.
I built my own speedwerx bender, its not that hard.. the dies are expensive from speedwerx themselves (700 bux

Dies can be cnc machined but you wont see any savings until you make more than just one.
OPW sell quite a few different size dies. Have a look in the Dirtcomp mag - usually the first page you open has the info about the JD2/3 benders.
Tom
custom bar work, 4x4 parts, trailers, anything out of steel/alloy :D
Might have to look at going this way, thanks Tom. Is it as simple as the bender looks, or is it a lot more involved?
Did you get the dies from OPW? Any Pics of your bender???? please???
I should have already stipulated that I prefer the draw through benders, Not the bow and arrow style, more common amongst the cheaper ones.
From what I hear they are alot better for accurate smooth bends?
Cheers, Dano.

Toms is a speedwerx/pro tools copy and uses totally different dies than the JD2 model that OPW sells..the speedwerx style bends vertically and the JD2 bends horizontal..dies from speedwerx include die, follower bar, tube holder and pin and vary in price depending on what size you get..from memory the 32nb die was about $620, 1 3/4 inch was $670 and 25nb was $530..dano80 wrote:Might have to look at going this way, thanks Tom. bender is simple to build but make sure you are accurate with measurements when you build it ..
sometimes it is easier just to buy stuff complete..even building your own will probably realistically only save you a couple of hundred

the original and the best
the original and the best
buy mine. look in for sale.
the benders are only $700 new.
a jack is about $250 alone, steel would be about $200, bolts $20, shaft machining $100 etc. Would be an option of you laser cut and folded 10 units.
I looked at it before buying mine and could not justify it
cheers bru

tube bender
Also if you want to bend 180 degree then the speedwork one is not the one to get i think it only bends to 110 /120 degree from memory, the ones pete sells (opw) will bend a full 180 degree, i have one of these and they are great really good bends.
