i no this has probably been talked about before but i was wondering if anyone has ever done a body lift on a 1983 lux, im going to be doing one soon (2" lift) so i can wack 33's under it and i am curious wether the gearstick, steering and break lines need to be modded to take the lift.
Thanks any info would be appreciated

My stepfather did this to his single cab lux and with the lift the brake lines should be extended, but he just took the clamp out of the line so it can slide (yes dodgy I know but it's a offroad toy only). He didn't have any trouble with the gear stick or the steering. The other thing to check is the radiator shroud as you may need to lower it. Otherwise it was a basic job better than a pootrol 2" lift

I put a 3.5" bodylift in my 83 a few years ago with no probs. Had to lengthen steering shaft and fuel filler, drop radiator and stretch brake lines. Cant remember if I had to cut the floor around the gear levers or not.

Got one on mine, fan shroud was a problem. Had to unclip the brake lines (they stretch) and a couple of the wires (alt one i think). Think that was about it, been awhile since it was done.

thanks mate mine not running the 2.2 diesel it was converted to the 2.4 and the guy did it himself so im hoping all the clips on the wires are all undone half of them were so the wires should just reach i hope. and as the for shroud thats no prob the metal lines worry me they are coiled tho so i should be able to pull them and stretch them.
thanks for the replies guys

you wont need to strech them far. Just a hint if you are in vic, only use 45mm blocks. When i got the V8 eng report done he nailed me for 50mm body lift and i had to take off 5mm to make it legel.

ok nah im in queensland, and the blocks shouldnt show coz of my nice side steps attached to body lol so im hoping it will be ok, im more worried about the steering shaft should i buy an extension piece i can get one or do they come out enough on the spline

on mine i am still running the normal setup. the shaft sits lower in the hole so the rubber boot on the fire wall dosn't fit. You might need to stuff around with shifter, dont kick it they brake. there is a steel plate on/under the shift boot (can't remember wich one), i cut the peice out between the two sticks and works fine.

ok thanks mate that has helped heaps, i can get the shaft extension for $150 so i might do it and ill keep the rubber boot will keep water out on crossings and yeh ive heard the shifter needs sorting. im doing it with a mate and should have it done in a day i hope lol

what i wanna know is, (i have 93model).. i have no idea how you will need to extend your brake lines with a body lift? the engine is attached to the chassie not the cab
i have done 2 inch cab on mine and never had to touch brakelines until i started pushing more flex...
also benno you will need to cut around the shifter as said the middle peice and also a lil more, not sure on ya shape, but i dare say it would be
also third edit lol, forget the shaft extension to ya dont needs it i never did and they are much of muchness, plus i couldnt see 150 in one of them, they are smaller than the palm of ya hand... there is enuf slip plus more in the couple of adjustments on them.
Cheers, Chris

Where does the brake booster/ master cylinder sit......... on the chassis
If you put the hilux on a hoist they will be stretched!!! Have fun.

Cab to chassis there coiled up steel lines so it strecthes out no drama the only way you'll stop water coming in through the hole in the firewall is to make up a custom cover piece of piss and just screw it or good quality glue to the fire wall no more water in your shoes after gassing it at a puddle. With the steering shaft loosen of the main slip spline before you do the lift tighten up when done

thanks Dan, its dan isnt it lol.
yeh i thought u just loosen the clamp on the spline then lift then it will stretch the steel lines easy and then i will just remove boot cut tub and remount the cowling on the fan and it should be all go. i will make a nice rubber flap for around the steering last time i hit deep water it came in through the farken air vents, stuffed my cd player, someone has now learnt to shut the air vents and turn to recirculate when he goes swimming lol
thanks for all the help guys!!!

Yeah man it's Dan master and booster are mounted to the cab have look and you'll see what we mean loosen of a few steering joint's/inc main slip one (under dash) then feel if everything has some movement spin fan to see if it clears and it's all good

thanks guys, i think the cowling will hit so i will have to remount that or the whole radiator but i think it will be easier to remount the cowling. the worst part is going to be fixing the bull bar to suit lol pain in the A hole, and i think my side steps are attached to the tub so they will be ok.
i will let yas no how i go fitting it in 2 weeks time i hope.
