Mine does this. Is the car bodylifted? Low range lever could be fouling on bodywork.

I find that i have to pull back on the lever a bit (engages within about 1cm lever movement) to properly engage 4x4 when in low range. Probably due to worn or mis adjusted selector mechanism.

no doesn't have a body lift. We had a look and it seems to be not fouling on anything so may be a pull apart job .

Nor is mine and it still does this. Try pulling the lever back towards you whilst driving. you may feel it click in.

My pattern is more like this:

Code: Select all

ive had this happen on my truck and my brothers 75, its some thing to do with the selector shaft for low range, its caused from not stoping when in low range and selecting high range while still driving, and it will require a rebuild kit, and its a heap easier if you have a hoist :D

Mnay moons ago, i bought a bj70 which hd no drive to front wheels in low, but ok in high...this is what i found....there is a p;ate ontop of the gearbox that was out of adjustment, allowing the lever in low to move towards the passenger , disabling drive to front wheels...if this is your problem, moving lever towards your leg whilst in low will get low happening for you again...fix was to take the cover off the tunnel and all was revealed...10 minute fix, 2 hours getting the seats/vinyl out to get to the cover.
