OIL LEAK

OIL LEAK
Hey guys just trying to find an oil leak in my 92 NH 2.5TD Pajero, seems to be coming from above the front diff, ends up collecting and dripping off the front diff, it is black so definitly engine oil, not heaps fast leak, if i clean it off its back in 2 days. Any ideas where it could be coming from?
Oil level from dip stick doesnt seem to be going down at all, but total from when i noticed the oil leak till now its probably only lost 50ml at most.
Any ideas, anyone in sydney who knows these engines and could have a look for me???
BY THE WAY DIESEL IS FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!!! AHHHHHH (just had to get it out)

OIL
True it is above that area, but was serviced recently and i watched the guy tighten it, but will check it more thoughrougly when i get home from cairns at the end of this week.
There also seems to be some oil gathering around the base of the gearbox, where it connects to the engine i guess, just behind the oil sump.

Re: OIL
Which can also be caused by oil leaking from the engine blown back as you drive. Find the source on your diff, clean it all up, then see if you still have oil under the gearbox.Dalluke wrote:There also seems to be some oil gathering around the base of the gearbox, where it connects to the engine i guess, just behind the oil sump.
I'd suggest a front main seal. You should be able to see from the top how high it is coming from - the one I had was a front main. Change it next time you do a cam belt as its quite a job otherwise.

If it is a seal, how urgently do i need to fix it. Can i just watch the oil level until i get my belts changed next? Or do i need to do something urgently

An oil seal... well you only need to worry about it if it is either
a) leaking oil all over your wife's concrete
b) leaking out so fast you run the risk of running out
c) if it is leaking onto brakes or similar
So in your case but without knowing if situation a is applicable then I wouldn't be worrying about it for now!
I got my hemorage fixed which was about 2 litres oil/1000km. That made a mess all up the tail door from the wind passing under the car - I hate to think what following cars looked like......
