Hella Plugs? Anderson Plugs? 12v cig lighter plugs replaced

Post by Tom0 »

I want to get rid of my cigarette lighter plugs and install something different. My old dad has what I think are "Hella" or "Merit" plugs in his truck. My BMW 1150 GS Adventure (big off road touring bike) has the same, built-in.

Where do I get these cheap(ish)? There's a dude on ebay that sells them for $19 for a plug and socket (inc postage) but surely there are cheaper places...

I'll want at least 10 of each, sockets and plugs, to rewire all my toys, and to make a couple of adaptors so I can use other people's toys still. =)

Jaycar sell them. It's been a while since I have bought them, but I think from memory, the plugs were about $5 and sockets a similar amount.

Be careful with the plugs though and make sure you get the ones that have tabbed connectors so you can use spade terminals for the +ve and -ve. A mate of mine got ones where you just solder the wire onto the side and has problems with the maintaining connections on corrugations.
