Timing belt warning light

My timing belt warning light came on tonight and didn't go off. The manual says to replace them every 100 000 kms but mine has only done 190 000. Does this automatically come on if there is a problem or does it just come on as a reminder as it happened just after it clicked over 190 000. I'm thinking that there is a problem and that it needs to be fixed, as a coincidence the battery light came on and so did the filter light all at once.

Guess I'm not going out in the mud this weekend, just when I got a long weekend off too!

I believe that the warning light for the timing belt is an automatic thing activated by the odometer. I got my timing belt replaced at 136k when my engine got rebuilt and the warning light just came on at 190k, so it still has another 30-40k before I'll replace it. Also it came on when I got to 90k originally.

I think you have a electrical problem that needs to be looked at

As a coincidence the battery light came on and so did the filter light all at once.

My money is on Electrical.

For those three lights to come on, sounds like Alternator is not charging or similar, nothing to do with the T-Belt.

after a big muddy weekend my lux was coverd in mud and eninge bay included.. i had all warnign lights come on...when got home degreesed it all and then wd40 everthin elcetrical and all lights went away...so if its dirty under bonnet have a go at that ?

Electrical problem is probably your alt. brushes getting wet and muddy and as the heat dries them the mud sticks them in the sockets.
To fix a heavy tap on the alt may loosen them but you will eventually have to strip and wash these parts.

The timing belt light is activated by the odometer in the back of your dash, and automatically comes on at 90,000 k's to remind you to change the belt soon. On the dash to the left of the odometer reset button is a little rubber cap, remove this and use a thin bit of wire or something like that to press the button on the panel and it will reset the timing belt warning light.
