What radiator to mount on tray?

Post by BushTuckerNed »

Hello all.

Ive got a dual cab hilux with a injected 5 litre and auto in it. Im getting a custom tray built and i plan to put the radiator and an auto cooler on the tray. For the reasons of, getting it out of the mud and recessing the winch into the grill for winch challenges etc.

It currently runs the standard v8 radiator and a single thermo. It never overheats on the road, but when i push it off road it gets hot.

So what radiator do you suggest to mount on the back?

Some have said an AU radiator with matching thermos, but others have advised me against this.

I know mounting on the tray i can get as big as possible really, but i suppose im looking for the cheapest, most effective option for me right now that will not cause the car to overheat while offroad.

I know Guts just runs a GQ radaitor and he has no problems with that. But different engines too

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Scotty

I would run gen 3 radiator and fans. you can buy them new for about $500. there aren't many new packages near this $$

I had this on my last truck and it worked well.

If you want the best ring Brent from Wizard Performance (Aust Kartek dealer). Kartek sell some sweet rad / fan packages and are not that dear - $1k ish. I saw them last November and there were a few to choose from

PWR-3119SPKIT

2 Row Single Pass Radiator with aluminum shroud & Dual Fans

Dimensions 31"L x 2 7/8"W

Available in 14", 16" or 19" Tall

Hey BTN I've been thinking similar things to you for my zook. Sick of mud and crap filling the radiator up. anyway PWR make an offroad 2 pass 55mm radiator with thermos and shroud. nice setup. THis pic is of the large one.
