Usually the plug at the end has to be soldered.

The ground sheath gets folded over and there should be a small plastic tube exposed. Underneath that is the core wire that needs to be soldered into your plug.

People have done it before without soldering it in but to get the best out of your UHF you should solder it.
It can also come loose under vibration if you don't solder it.

I bought an RFI one and it came with the end on it - well a smaller version and they give you an adapter.

the real odd thing about this is, if you look up the uniden website it says to use a uniden 078 arial but I've never seen any uniden arial's for sale anywhere and there's no info about the uniden arials on their own website.

You don't need to buy a Uniden antenna just coz you have a Uniden radio. So long as it is madefor the required frequency, it's all good.
